Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab’s social media head and provincial leader of the PPP Ms. Jahanara M Wattoo has paid rich tributes to Salman Taseer Shaheed on his fourth martyrdom anniversary, for his principled stance against religious extremism and fundamentalism and support for the rights of religious minorities.
She said that Salman Taseer was a brave man who never shied away from raising his voice for the downtrodden, the voiceless segments of the society particularly for women and minority rights.
She recalled and tweeted that “I made my life first speech at Governors House Lhr. #ShaheedSalmanTaseer @AamnaTaseer hosted d event. #NeverForget”
She also tweeted: “Remembering #SalmanTaseer. A brave man, great Governor and wittiest person I knew. #NeverForget”
She maintained people like Salman Taseer stood for the rights of minorities and marginalized communities and lost his life to build an enlighten and liberal society. He had the courage to face the religious fanaticism that was prevailing in the society and has destroyed the tolerant fabric of our society.
Salman Taseer will always be remembered for his dignity, enlightenment, integrity and sacrifices for humanity, she added.
It should be mentioned that Salaman Taseer was the PPP Governor gunned down by his body guard, Mumtaz Qadri, four years ago in Islamabad.
His son, Shahbaz Taseer, was kidnapped on August 26, 2011 and still not recovered.
