Mian Manzoor Wattoo fears below-target wheat production owing to water scarcity

LAHORE: Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP, has expressed his apprehensions that wheat target will not be achieved this year due to the scarcity of water attributed to excessive load shedding of electricity and farmers are unable to run their tube wells.
In a statement issued here Wednesday said the impression of this government as anti-farmers government was strengthening after every passing day. All the representatives organizations of the country are up against the government, he observed.
He pointed out that the rice growers had been devastated due to the abject support price this year and the government’s step-motherly treatment meted out to them was unforgiving.
He said that the government even did not discuss the issue of compensating the rice growers not to speak of extending subsidy to them to dispel the impression of its hostility towards them.
He thanked the Prime Minister for forcing the people of the country including him to cook food by burning woods because the gas had become a scarce commodity. This government has driven the nation to the stone age.
He added that the people of Punjab were getting ready to beat the heat with hand made fan invented by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the face of anticipated agonizing load shedding of electricity in the summer season.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo recalled that the PML (N) leadership rejected the Rental Power Projects of the then PPP government and now going for the same without compunction.
The leaders of the present government unleashed a high key propaganda campaign against the government and succeeded in scaring away the foreign investors of Rental Power. Had they not done petty politics on the projects the load shedding of electricity would have not been here, he maintained.
