ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Tuesday held Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for the petrol crisis in the country and said that no one hatched the conspiracy against the government but itself.
PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira and Senator Saleem H Mandviwalla and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah in separate press conferences severely criticized the government over what they called its inability to foresee the situation about the petrol. Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said that lack of coordination between the government ministers created the crisis of petrol in the county and said that PPP had pointed out the looming threat of petrol shortage even in the session recently concluded.
He said that we had asked the government to pay attention to the looming crisis of petrol supply but it didn’t lend an ear to our voice, resultantly facing the criticism across the country. Shah said that opposition has submitted the requisition for assembly session and hoped that government would summon the session in few days to discuss the issue of petrol because parliament is the best forum to discuss the national issues. He said that PPP would continue to identify the weaknesses in the working of government as per its constitutional role.
He noted the crisis of petrol emerged because of non-payment of PSO by the government and in this situation how it is possible for the company to procure the oil from the international market. Meanwhile Qamar Zaman Kaira rejected an inquiry committee on fuel crisis constituted by the Prime Minister, they said that the committee should be constituted on senior minister level like Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to probe the crisis. Senator Saleem Mandviwalla said that fuel crisis was developed in the country due to break up of supply chain of fuel and not releasing money timely by Finance Minister. He said that at least two weeks should be required to normalize the situation. He said that both Finance and Petroleum ministries are responsible of the crisis.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the PML-N had claimed in the general elections before coming into power that it has done homework and has experienced team and the PPP has seen the performance of this team. “The People watching the performance of experienced team of Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf. There is no availability of petrol, gas and electricity in the country. If it is performance of senior team then what the others will be doing. The PPP is also monitoring the performance of the Prime Minister’s team. There is no coordination among the ministers. He said that the prime minister should own the responsibility of fuel crisis as he has mandate.
