Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab, paid return visit to the PML (Q) Chief Chaudhry Shujat Hussain on behalf of the Co –Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who is in London at present, and discussed the various aspects of contesting forthcoming Senate elections with understanding.
While talking to media after the meeting, he advocated that in fact all the opposition parties should contest elections as a united front adding that he was in favour of bringing PTI Chief in the loop as well. He said that his Party would also get in touch with individual parties in this regard adding that he would contact the Amir Jamait-i- Islami in this regard.
He said that it was need of the hour that whole opposition parties should get together to offset the impact of the worst governance in the country and the people were facing the startling hardships due to their mismanagemenr and inaptness as a result.
He pointed out that the people were forced to face back to back crisis in the country like the load shedding of the electricity and gas including the withering away of petrol from the market. People have been fed up with this government because they had faced the unprecedented load shedding of electricity and gas and the prospects of improvement are as oblique as ever, he added.
Mian Manzor Ahmed Wattoo took strong exception to the reports suggesting that the government was deleting the names of recipients from the Benazir Income Support Programme adding that the government must not indulge in this activity of starving the poor to death.
He added that the BISP was the major imitative of PPP for women empowerment besides a flagship project of social security for those who are at the other end of the food chain
He said that the PPP would not allow this mischief of this kind by the government adding that it should clarify the position in this regard because the lives of hundred of thousands people were at stake who could not afford even one meal a day.
He said it looked that the government had abdicated its responsibilities of protecting the life and property of the people including from the foreign affairs because of its absence in terms of performance which obviously was quite conspicuous. The present government is a perfect embodiment of failure and ironically the hopes for improvement are also forlorn, he observed.
While responding to media questions, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo made it clear that the PPP saved democracy and not the government. He said that the PPP did not join the sit-in politics because if it had joined the democratic system would have collapsed to the dismay of all of us.
He added that the PPP had never been an Establishment Party and always came to power through the votes of the people whom it considered its real constituency.
He said that regular contacts between the PML(Q) and PPP would continue in the future as well.
Chaudhry Shujat Hussainin in his opening statement to the media said that without the co-operation of the opposition governmental affairs could not be run smoothly and underscored the importance of understanding between the government and the opposition.
He castigated the Punjab Government for dropping the various peoples’ welfare oriented projects started by the Chaudhry Perviz Elhai simply because such projects were inaugurated by the former Chief Minister of Punjab.
He appreciated the successful visits of the Army Chief to the USA, Saudi Arabia, UK and now in China. He said that he visited the IDP camps being run by the Army and pleasantly the impression was quite opposite what the media had been projecting.
He suggested to the government to arrange the visit of media people to the IDP camps so that the bad impression of treatment to the IDP was effectively dispelled.
