Performs groundbreaking of Nankana press club

NANKANA SAHIB: Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Syed Asif Hashim has said the media is the fourth pillar of the state and no one can deny its importance.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the building of Nankana Press Club here on Wednesday, Asif Hashim said media reflected the true picture of society. He said democracy strengthened institutions in the country, adding media provided people with guidance and vision. He lauded the services of the founder of press club late Ch Barkat Ali. He said the PPP was his property and he did not want anybody to disintegrate it. He said he discussed workers’ rights with the Punjab government and Punjab PPP president Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo. He said he did nothing wrong or illegal in his tenure as ETPB chairman. He said journalists’ colony would be constructed soon in Nankana. He promised to talk with PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for funds for the construction of the press club building. Nankana Press Club president Afzal Haq said journalists always talked about the right of people due to which they had to face difficulties. Secretary-general Naeem Ahmed said it was the obligation of every journalist to report impartially. Union of Journalists president Shaheen Iqbal said journalists scarified their lives. DBA president Ch Anwar Zahid said journalists struggled with lawyers for democracy in the country. MPA Muhammad Aslam Kharal said it was a great honour that the press club was founded by a PPP Jiyala. He announced Rs 100,000 grant for the press club. DPO Ghulam Mubashir, former DBA president Muhammad Amin Bhatti, press club patron-in-chief Manzoor Ahmad, former MC chairman Lal Din Akhtar and a large number of journalists were present. Later, ETPB chairman visited the District Bar Association and spoke to lawyers.
