Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President PPP Central Punjab, has taken on the PML (N) government for its abject failure to control the worsening load shedding of electricity observing the reported scrapping of the coal-based mega power generations projects at Gaddani are the physical manifestation of their inaptness, mismanagement and total bereft of vision to solve country’s chronic problems.
This he said while talking to top leadership of PPP of district Sheikhupura today adding the people are totally disappointed of this government as they are not hopeful of any improvement, whatsoever, in the quality of their life during their watch. Those who were present in the meeting included, Asef Khan , district president, Altaf Virk, ex-district president,Mushtaq Hussain Dogar, ex- district secretary general. Milk Mushtaq Awan, ex-President PPP Punjab,Milk Nawab Sheer Vaseer, president PPP Kissan Wing and Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Secretary General PPP Central Punjab.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo called upon the government to take up with full earnest the mega hydel projects like Bhasha Dam, Dassu Dam, Moonji Dam and Neelam-Jehlum Hydel Powr Project those would not only solve our energy problems on permanent basis with fraction of cost but would also provide much needed water to our agriculture sector. With the completion of these projects the multiplying impact to our economy and social life will bring real smile on the faces of all Pakistani, he observed.
He said that the completion of the these projects would not only provide electricity at much cheaper rates to the people of Pakistan but also save our import bill to the extent of staggering 15 billions dollars spent on import of petroleum products every year.
He said that Bhash Dam would produce 4500 mw electricity, availability of 8, 500, 000 acres of water and increase the life of Tarbela Dam by 35 years whereas Dassu Dam would produce more than 4000 mw electricity enough to bridge the gap between the demand and supply if supplemented with other small projects of the same type. These three projects are feasible and the works should commence on pro- active basis, he urged the government.
He recalled that the PPP previous government released 35 billion rupees for the land compensation of Bhasha Dam but because the priorities of this government were at variance with the national needs and therefore the project did not merit in their development priority as no worthwhile progress had been reported since then on the project.
He criticized the Punjab Chief Minister for deceiving the people by playing to the gallery through the imposing publicity advertisements at tax payers’ money and long press statements preceded by no follow up action. The situation has been going from bad to worse in all walks of provincial life and the people are worse off, he lamented.
He recalled that this government shelved his policy of power generation on canals and rivers in Punjab on political grounds and preferred to waste almost ninety billions rupees on Metro Bus Project which was a constant drain on the public exchequer.
He observed his solar power project and the coal based power projects would meet the same fate like the Nanidipur Power Project which was favorite theme of him to malign the PPP erstwhile government.
He maintained that the Punjab Chief Minister had proved a bigger disaster for the people of this province in the face of worsening law and order situation, inadequate educational and health facilities and the people living in the far flung areas were meted out step-motherly treatment stemming from their economic deprivation inflicted by the Punjab Government of the day.
