LAHORE-The PPP ticket holder from NA-121 and senior party leader Aurangzeb Barki on Tuesday organised a workers’ convention to celebrate five years of PPP government in power.
The PPP is the only party whose leadership has rendered  unprecedented sacrifices for the promotion of democracy and welfare of the people. PPP Punjab president Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo  said this while addressing PPP women and youth workers convention. He said President Asif Ali Zardari was a founder of the reconciliation policy and the PPP took all its coalition partners on board. Mian Manzoor Wattoo said in 1990 the PML-N had come to power with two third majority but survived for two years while the PPP had just 124 members in the existing parliament which was going to complete its five years term due to political far-farsightedness of President Asif Ali Zardari.
He said it was a responsibility of  the provincial government to control price hike and take other steps to facilitate people of Punjab but the Punjab government had failed in this regard.
The PPP leader said due to poor policies of Punjab rulers different sectors like health, education and others were being ignored due to which people were suffering.
He said Seven million families were getting benefit from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the PML-N wanted to scrap the programme which was initiated to facilitate the poor.
The PPP is committed to end hardships of the poor and wants to increase the number of people of BISP: he added.
Mian Manzoor Wattoo said the PPP government would introduce solar system to overcome electricity problem, adding that work on different dams like Bhasha, Neelum Jhelum and others were underway.
Mian Manzoor Wattoo vowed to make the PPP a popular party of the masses as it was in way back in 1970. “I would make Punjab and Lahore a fortress of the PPP yet again”, he pledged.
He also congratulated Aurnagzeb Barki for organising a big show in NA-121. “It is a big achievement of Mr Barki to gather such a large number of party workers in a single constituency”, he remarked.
PPP Punjab general secretary Tanvir Asharaf Kaira said the PPP had always struggled for welfare of a common man.
He said the PML-N had not added a single mega watt to national grid and wasted billion of rupees on ill planned schemes like Sasti Roti and others.
He said the Punjab government had completed a Rs 30 billion bus project at a cost of Rs 80 billion, adding that people would hold the PML-N accountable in this regard.
The PPP leaders in their speeches criticised various development projects of Punjab government especially the Metro Bus System (MBS) and alleged that out total project cost of Rs 80 billion, Rs 60 billion had been embezzled. But they would not substantiate their claim by facts and figures.
They expressed their optimism that PPP would become more vibrant organisation after setting up of chairman’s secretariat in Lahore and Bilawal’s frequent interactions in future with party workers.  Addressing participants of the convention.
Senior party leaders including Raja Riaz, Dr Hasnaat Shah and Advisor to AJK PM, Ghulam Mohayuddin, Sohail Butt, Aurangzeib Burki, Asif Mehmood Nagra, Dr Hasnat Shah, Mehr Iftikhar, Bushra Malik and others also spoke on the occasion.
