PPP strategy for contesting the coming general election and ongoing political situation in the country especially in Punjab was the focus of the meeting with the PPP Chairman.
While talking to the delegation, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP is very clear on the subject of free, fair, transparent and without fear general elections in the country and would never allow any to spoil the process of conducting the elections and would also never allow any to create impediments in the way of holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country. The PPP has played a vibrant and commendable role for strengthening the democracy in the country and had introduced the concept of tolerance and reconciliation. PPP would continue with its struggle for raising the poor and arriving at the point of fulfilling the PPP’s commitment to the poor for the provision of Roti, Kapra Aur Makan (Source of income, clothing and Shelter).
The PPP Chairman urged the party leaders that every effort should be made to bringing the achievements of the PPP during its 5-year tenure as the ruling party and programmes launched during that tenure in lime light while associating with the people.
The PPP leaders and office-bearers should make the best of their capabilities for mobilizing the masses to solace their support in favour of the party for the coming general elections. The PPP leaders, legislators and all level office-bearers should deeply associate with the people of their respective constituencies, said the PPP Chairman.
He told the party leaders and office-bearers that the roots of the PP were in the masses of the country and hence the largest political party of the country. People of the country were the real strength of the party and they were the people that had always put their confidence in the PPP leadership. PPP is from the people and always chose to go back to them regarding any strategic plan, execution of plan and decisions for the masses. Thus the PPP while in power made the best to deliver what the masses had asked for.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recounted various achievements of the PPP-led coalition government including the fight against militancy, granting provincial autonomy, restoration to a large extent of the 1973 Constitution and purging it of distortions inserted by the successive dictatorships, the 20th Constitutional amendment to ensure free and fair elections, NFC Award, introduction of Aghaz-i-Huqooq-i-Balochistan, political stability through reconciliation, poverty alleviation and women empowerment through the Benazir Income Support Program, giving shares to the workers in state-run enterprises, giving identity to the people of Pukhtunkhwa and taking legislative and other measures to protect women and other vulnerable classes from exploitations.
He said, “We have to build on these gains as we still have to travel a long distance in our struggle for real empowerment of the people and fulfilling the promise of our greater leaders of roti, kapra and makan.”
