LAHORE: PPP Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo on Monday ‘requested’ the Punjab rulers to declare their assets like he had done it, saying that it would help end corruption. Addressing a function of the People’s Unity PIA at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, he said the rulers in Punjab had been ignoring the health and education sectors, due to which people were suffering. “The rulers have wasted a hefty amount on the Metro Bus Service project,” he added.
Wattoo said that the PPP leadership had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the promotion of democracy and well-being of the people. He said the PPP, after coming to power, had reinstated more than 100,000 government employees sacked by the PML-N government. “It is to the credit of the PPP government that the salaries of government employees are in every budget,” he added. “The PPP is the only party that has given ownership rights to labourers of different factories,” he added.
He said that Benazir Bhutto had struggled for the well-being of the poor and embraced martyrdom. “Nobody in the subcontinent has leadership qualities like those possessed by PPP leaders. I have been planning for upcoming election and not yet shown my cards, which has frightened the PML-N.”
Addressing the function, Federal Minister for Capital Administration and Development Nazar Muhammad Gondal said the PPP had always fulfilled its promises with the people. He said the people had to decide who they wanted to see in power – those who were just rulers or those who worked for their welfare. He said that in the coming days, a lot of work had to be done to ensure the survival of different departments and their employees.
