The government has resorted to pre-poll rigging in NA-137 by imitating development projects, using official influence and indulging in excessive horse trading, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President PPP Central Punjab, while talking to media after his meeting with Pakistan Awami Tehreek leaders, Raheeq Abbassi, Mr. Nawaz Gundapur , today at Minhaj-ul- Quran, the Party headquarters.
He said that he came here to meet PAT leaders to seek their support for the PPP candidate Shah Jehan Bhatti who was contesting election as Party nominee from the NA-!37.
He observed that the real contest in the constituency was now between the PPP and the PML (N) candidates because the independent candidate, Brig. Ejaz Shah, had been cut to size after a score of his important supporters ditched him on one pre-text or another.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo demanded that the Government must immediately announce the local Bodies Election schedule adding that doubts were flying thick and high that they would never hold elections due to the fear of their inevitable defeat. People will reject them totally because they have miserably failed to provide relief to the them who have lost all hopes of any improvement in the future as well, he maintained.
He supported the suggestion of the PAT leaders to evolve consensus among the opposition parties for bringing amendment in the Punjab Local Bodies Bill to calibrate it with the spirit of local government. All endavour of the rulers to make the system subservient to them must not be allowed to succeed, he added.
He further said that PML (N) rulers were characteristically averse of devolution and love concentration of power adding the incumbent Chief Minister of Punjab was keeping more than a dozen Departments under his direct control and rest were control by him through Secretaries to the utter frustration of the respective Ministers.
He also indicated that PPP and PAT would seriously consider contesting the local bodies elections, if at all held, based on broader understanding of serving the people who have been relegated to the secondary position by this government.
He strongly urged the government to publish the report of the Judicial Commission on the Model Town incident in which more than fourteen workers of PAT were killed by the police. He added that those who were responsible for this criminal action should be punished to meet the demands of justice.
While responding to a media question, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that the PML(N) MPAs should be beholden to the PPP because now Chief Minister was not only gracing them time for meeting but has also given development funds to them for which they have been cribbing for so long.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo was accompanied by Tanvir Ashrf Kaira, Secretary General PPP Central Punjab and Manzoor Maneka.
