The promulgation of Presidential Ordinance by this government for the elections of Senate in FATA is analogous to haste makes waste because it had made the elections controversial, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President PPP Central Punjab, in a statement issued from here today.
He recalled that the Senate Elections held during PPP government in 2012 were totally free of allegations of horse trading because the then President Asif Ali Zardari evolved consensus among all the stakeholders and therefore Senators were elected unopposed and the question of horsed trading did not prop up as aresult.
He maintained that the government should have accepted the advice of the former President to evolve consensus on the same pattern but it regretfully fell on the deaf ear of the government.
He added that it was also inappropriate to push the 22 amendment within such a short span of time because it was not possible to rallying around all the political parties to steer it through.
He added that the government was embroiled in political isolation because it had the support of a few political parties whereas PPP had reached a broader understanding with MQM, ANP, JUI(F) and PML(Q) because Asif Ali Zardari’s following the policy of reconciliation religiously.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo also criticized PTI for its double standards because it was contesting Senate elections in KPK and boycotting in other provinces. It amounted to support of PML (N), a blessing in disguise, for the ruling Party, he observed.
He predicted that the PTI would pay heavy political cost of its inexperience and the situation in the KPK clearly indicated the downhill of it.
