Lahore: Pakistan Peoples Party Human Rights Wing Lahore chapter organized a rally in-front of Lahore Press Club on Sunday with respect to International Women’s Day.
Head S media Punjab Jahanara M Wattoo, PPP Human Rights Wing Punjab President Asif Khan, Spokesman Lahore PPP Barrister Amir Hassan, PPP Human Rights Wing Lahore chapter President Naseer Ahmad, Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan, Kamran Yousaf Ghuman, Sardar Inamul Haq Dogar, Umer Hayat Tabassam, Khawar Khatiyana, Shahida Jabeen, Junaid Qaiser, Ahsan Abbas Shah, Zeeshan Baig Shami and a large number of the PPP workers participated in the rally.
Jahanara M Wattoo on the occasion vowed to protect and promote women rights in Punjab against all sorts of discrimination they are subjected to. She said Pakistan People’s Party was fully committed to the welfare of women and the ideology of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir, who had remarked, “women’s rights are inseparable from human rights”.
She maintained the empowerment of women was the PPP’s manifesto and we had been striving to achieve this prime objective of the party. She recalled that a record number of bills related to women emancipation had been passed to empower women in the previous Pakistan Peoples Party government.
She said, this is the time to uphold women’s achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women’s rights and gender equality to mobilize all people to do their part. The whole nation already lauded the efforts of the previous PPP government in successfully passing legislative measures including protecting women from harassment at workplace, preventing acid attacks, discouraging anti women practices, creation of a Fund for women in distress and detention and legislation to punish several offences against women including depriving them from inheritance and forced marriage. She recalled that a few days earlier the PPP had succeeded in passing the Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2015 in Punjab.
