PPP Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo on Friday paid tribute to Shaheed Zaulfikar Ali Bhutto, saying he fought relentlessly for the rights of small farmers by introducing far-reaching reforms in the agriculture sector.
Hundreds of thousands of acres of state land further acquired under the land reforms were given to the landless farmers, Wattoo said while addressing a meeting of PPP Punjab Kissan Wing.
He said the federation of Pakistan owed a lot to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who gave unanimous constitution of 1973 to the nation, adding the federation of Pakistan was intact today only because of the constitution.
He said the hanging of the great leader by Zia-ul-Haq put the country on the trajectory of extremism and terrorism and thus his executioner played major role in pushing the country in the Afghan war.
He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto also made the defence of the country invincible because he gave nuclear programme to the country that led the country to become the 7th atomic power of the world. Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said Bhutto’s vision of Pakistan, a strong Pakistan, a prosperous Pakistan, a democratic Pakistan could not be materialised because Zia-ul-Haq had imposed martial law with the worst kind of dictatorship, notorious for hangings, lashing, drug trafficking and Kalashnikov culture. He said Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorship hit the foundations of the country and its very ideological basis.
He said that the PPP Punjab members would leave for Ghari Khuda Bux on April 2 in a big caravan from Lahore to take part in the anniversary of the great leader on April 4.The leaders of the Kissan Wing expressed their gratitude to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and that small farmers held him in the highest esteem.
