Mr. Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Secretary General Pakistan People’s Party Punjab, has said that the PPP and its top leadership have put its entire political weight behind democracy adding former President Asef Ali Zardari’s meeting with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently was the bold manifestation of the same commitment.
In a statement issued from here today he further said that his Party would continue to support the democratic dispensation no matter how inhospitable environment may be in the country.
He recalled that the PPP had accepted the results of the last year elections despite its reservations purely for the sake of the continuity of the political system in Pakistan.
He expressed the resolve that his Party would not hesitate in rendering sacrifices if need be for democracy because it believed the nurturing and consolidation of democracy in the country was the best tribute it could offer to the founding leader Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and the great leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
He called upon the leadership of the country not to resort to confrontational politics and instead follow the policy of reconciliation and mutual understanding in the wake of challenges facing the country.
He observed that the timing for the politics of agitation was not right as sharp political division would strike the very edifice of democratic dispensation which had been resurrected brick by brick by the nation during the last six years.
