It was reiterated in the meetings that the Pakistan People’s Party will continue to play the role of an effective opposition Party in the country while keeping in the forefront people’s politics in accordance with their aspirations.
This was stated by Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP who met here today Opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah, former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Khanzada Khan of KPK PPP President, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, former federal Minister, Nadeem Afzal Chen, former Chairman Public Accounts Committee, Barrister Sultan Mahmood, Faisal Karaim Kundhi, former Deputy Speaker National Assembly and former AJK President Raja Zulqarnain.
In the meetings, the political situation as obtaing in the country was discussed and the political leaders expressed their resolve that the Party would play robust role in the politics of the country by agitating the public interest issues within the Parliament and outside it to force the government to address the grievances of the poor people of the country.
They expressed their concern over the excessive load shedding and price hike urging the government to address these problems. In case the government fails to take corrective measures, like scheduled load shedding and subsidized food items to the poor, the PPP will not rest till the relief is not provided to them
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo apprised the Party leaders of the organizational gigantic task undertaken in the province of Punjab under his leadership by his team adding that he would be happy to present the Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, during his forthcoming visit to Province, a well organized Party from roots to branches ready to make the province as the strong hold of Party once again.
While briefing about the activities of the Party, he said that the Party did not spare any opportunity that matched with the promotion of the people’s rights or espoused the cause of the oppressed sections of the society.
In this regard he mentioned that the PPP Punjab Social Media mobilized the public opinion against the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology regarding the marriage age and seeking of approval of second marriage by holding protest in Lahore and also participating in the seminar for the rights of the women folk. The participation of the civil society was very encouraging. A movement of signatures was also launched against the recommendations of the Council.
He said that the PPP was equally active in reaching out to the labour unions and held a seminar at the Lahore press club on 1st May this year in connection with the ceremony to pay tributes to the martyrs of Chicago and also highlighted the struggle of the PPP for the rights of the labour.
He also referred to the PPP Punjab endeavors to spotlight the plight of the poor farmers due to the anti-farmers policy of the present government which was indeed by the capitalists, for the capitalists and of the capitalists. He informed them that PPP Punjab fully supported the demands of Kissan Ittehad.
The party leaders appreciated the efforts of the Punjab PPP and his team hoping that the Party leadership would continue to put its best efforts for the uplift of the Party.
