Ms. Jahanara M Wattoo, a provincial leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and head PPP social media wing Punjab has strongly condemned the brutal stoning to death of Farzana Bibi, a Pakistani woman killed by her relatives outside Lahore High Court for marrying against their wishes.

In a press statement issued here, she says that violence against women is not part of the religion and the taking of life in the name of honour is a heinous crime, and goes against any religious teaching.

No religion and civilization accept this kind of brutality in the name of so-called honour and women’s rights are a central part of the contemporary democratic values and therefore, it is important for our legislative institutions, administrative authorities and judiciary to ensure equal right and protection of women in society, she urged.

She called for exemplary punishment for culprits involved in brutal stoned to death of Farzana Bibi, calling the crime a barbaric “slur” on the nation. She also said the Punjab government has failed to live up to its commitments to improving women’s human rights, including protecting their lives and freedom.

She also tweet:

Condemn all of those shameless/stone hearted ppl who just stood there n watched her die. No doubt humanity is rare in our nation.#Farzana
