Mian Manzoor Watto laments govt over decreasing allocations in the education sector

Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP, has lamented the federal government for decreasing allocations in the education sector by almost 11 % in the budget 2014-2015.. It speaks volumes of the level of the commitment of the present government in the education sector, ha added, he said in a statement issued from here today.

He said that there was hardly any need to emphasize that education played a pivotal role in the overall social development of a society and decrease in the allocation clearly suggested the flawed development strategy and erroneous priorities of the government.

He maintained that the bureaucratic budget of the Punjab Government would also reflect the same trend because they were in favour of outsourcing this important sector to the private sector and thus providing it the opportunity to swindle all and sundry.

He added that the private sector had been squeezing the poor and middle class people dry as they had to pay hefty tuition fee. They are forced to send their children to private schools for the sake of quality education which is not available in the government educational instituions.

Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo demanded that the Punjab Government should improve the quality of education at the government schools so that the people were emboldened to send their children to the government schools instead to the private schools.

Commenting on the present pathetic conditions of the government schools, he maintained that no body would like to send their children to such schools where even bare minimum facilities were not available to the students.

He urged that the Punjab Chief Minister instead of spending the resources on the show piece projects like Expressway Metro Train or Metro Bus Projects, it was better if he concentrated on the improvement of the quality of education and environment of the educational institutions.

He pointed out how the demoralized teachers could play their role to impart good education when they were subject to dehumanization by the administration’s brutalities when they protested for the acceptance of their legitimate demands.

He called upon the Punjab government to abandon the patronage of the discriminatory education policy like Danish Schools and focus on in responding to the needs of the major population of the province. Education to all and sundry is of paramount importance for a responsible citizenry, he argued.
