Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President PPP central Punjab, has condemned the raid of FIA on the residence of former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday to arrest him.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Wattoo demanded that false cases against ex-PM Raja Pervez Ashraf and Makhdoom Amin Fahim should be dropped. He said that the government, instead of apprehending the terrorists, kidnappers, extortionists and sectarian killers who were roaming freely without fear of consequences, was after the politicians to humiliate them on flimsy grounds.

He said the PML (N) government should desist from re-visiting the politics of ninety’s that destroyed the democratic dispensation in the country and the nation had to undergo rigors of dictatorship for about eleven years. They had to live in exile for score of years, he said.

He said there was not a single political prisoner during the five years of PPP previous democratic.

He called upon the leadership of the PML (N) to adhere to the Charter of Democracy signed by the top leadership of two countries on May 14, 2006 in which they committed to abandoning the politics of political victimization and follow the politics of reconciliation and tolerance. The pursuit of the recent cases against the leaders of PPP defied their commitment to the COD, he added.

He pointed out that the Anti-Corruption Court Central, Karachi, was the court under the federal government and therefore the mala fidie intentions of the government could not be ruled out.

He maintained that it was imperative that the political leadership, especially the party in government, should exhibit maturity and equanimity while dealing with other political forces in the interest of democracy and the federation. The witch hunting had always hurt the federation and the civilian governments because it was against the very spirit of democratic values, he observed.
