Pakistan People’s Party, Punjab, Secretary General, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has chastised the Punjab government for its abject failure to control the prices of the fruit and vegetables during the first week of the Holy month of Ramazan.
He said that Punjab Government’s Ramazan Package of Rs, 5 billion had exploded in its face and the Department of Industry for their inability to provide much touted relief to the poor people of the province.
He added that the subsidized items were not available any where in the Utility Stores or other outlets and the people were going from pillar to post but in vain. The poor people do not deserve the crude joke like this of the Punjab Government, he added.
According to the media reports the vegetable and fruit items sold as per the price lists of administration were of highly sub-standard and indeed not suitable for human consumption. It is adding insult to the injury, he observed.
He lamented the Government Ministers and representatives of the PML (N) visiting the Ramazan Bazars for publicity only because such visits were of no consequence so far as the relief to the poor was concerned.
Tanvir Ashraf Kaira said that even detailed media reports to the highly inflated prices of items of daily use in the markets had failed to move the government to take corrective measures immediately as the practice of profiteering was continuing unabated at the expense of the consumers.
