Pakistan People’s Party, Punjab Secretary General Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that his Party support to the government should not be taken for granted adding the mandarins should focus on to provide relief to the people instead of compounding their miseries through neglect and inaptness, the present government is unfortunately known for.
This he said in a statement issued from here today from the Party Secretariat.
He said that Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari accepted the results of May 2013 for the sake of continuity of the political system despite his serious reservations on the fairness and impartiality of the electoral process. But that does not give carte blanche to the ruling Party to trample on the aspirations of the people with impunity.
He said that the torturous long hours load shedding of electricity, runaway food inflation, worsening law and order situation and abject neglect of the health and education sectors, have made the lives of the people miserable and the apathy of the government was appalling that could not be condoned by PPP that believed in the people’s politics.
He called upon the PML (N) government to jettison the family style of government adding their intimidation of the elected representatives and the Ministers alike would not bear fruit measuring up to the expectations. The outsourcing the Punjab Chief Ministership by the Shahbaz Sharif is hierarchal inclination that diametrically runs against the democratic culture.
He said that the Prime Minister and Punjab Chief Minister should conduct their governmental affairs in harmony with the elected Prime Minister and the elected Chief Minister in the real sense of the word. The highest public offices should not be treated as family fiefdom, he observed.
Mr. Tanvir Ashraf Kaira called upon the government to accept the demands of the PTI and immediately initiate the process of voters verification through thumb impression of four constituencies of Lahore to avoid the clash in next month. Good thinking will prevail at the end of the day, he hoped.
He pointed out that the maneuvering of the delay of voters verification through procedural lacunas by the PML (N) leaders would not help to shy away the possibility of gathering political storm with terrible consequences for the system and the country.
He maintained that consistent engagement with opposition was the best policy in functioning democracy because opposition was the integral part of the set up. Opposition is treated as a government in waiting and accepted as such, he argued.
