Threats and counter threats by PML (N) and PTI along with provocative statements by respective leaders will only deepen the prevailing political deadlock in the country at a time when the country is fighting the war of its survival, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo in a statement issued from here today.
He said that the country’s security was under threat and the declaration of political fight unto submission by the PTI and the acceptance of the challenge by the PML (N) would only strengthen the hands of the forces of extremism and terrorism at the expense of democracy.
He deplored the sense of proportion of the political parties which were up in arms to subdue the political opponents through agitation and while other was gearing up to deny the legitimate right of peaceful procession on August 14.
He recalled that the PML (N) leaders had also lunched long march and train march in the past but they were not stopped adding why the same democratic right was being denied to the PTI. Heaven will not fall as a result of PTI long march, he observed.
He underscored the importance of calling the joint session of the Parliament to resolve the issue through the highest democratic forum instead of resorting to street politics because the time was not right for the politics of agitation.
He predicted that protests and processions would not bring down the elected government but the mistake like the Model Town incident by this government could lead to their early packing up like in the past.
He maintained that the suicidal politics was anathema to democratic dispensation the essence of which was accommodation, reconciliation and finding the way out from the complicated political situation. Failure to find the way out will reflect poorly on the government of the day, he argued.
He recalled that the Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s advice to the leadership of the country regarding shunning the political differences and focusing on to secure country’s security as their top priority was the need of the hour.
