ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Thursday said anyone who took any step against democracy will be counted among the dictators.
He said the PML-N government should have handled the political situation wisely but those who were more loyal than the king were creating problems for the rulers and spoiling the entire situation.
“The government should have demonstrated a much better and more positive attitude in the prevailing political situation in the country but there are many leaders in the ruling party who are more loyal than the king,” Khursheed Shah while speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly said.
He said they were trying to defuse the tension but the government was arresting political workers and was harassing the masses in different ways, saying the rulers should demonstrate maturity.
Meanwhile, taking part in debate on the presidential address to joint sitting of the parliament, Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah said so far the country had seen 12 presidents and some of them did not give weight to the parliament and other accepted supremacy of the constitution. “It is also our duty to work for upholding the constitution,” he said.
He said the PPP had given many sacrifices for the democracy and its elected president Asif Ali Zardari who believed in the strengthening of the democratic system, addressed the parliament on six occasions.
Observing that there were rumours about derailing the democracy, the opposition leader said the politicians should play their due role in present situation. He said that dictatorship had been root cause of all the evils and problems in the country.
