LALAMUSA, Aug 22 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said democracy, democratic attitude and institutions should be strengthened in the country.
Talking to the media and various delegations here, he said when the PPP government came to power, it struggled for holding fair, free and transparent elections in the country, therefore, an appointment of a chief election commissioner was made unanimously first time in the history of Pakistan after legislation.
The information minister said a constitutional office for members of the Election Commission was established and its members had time frame, designation and an oath. He said all these constitutional steps were taken for free, fair and transparent elections. He added the formation of transparent voter lists was also the need of the hour and work on these lists was going on with the help of NADRA.
