President Zardari to set up camp in Lahore

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari who is also the Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will set up presidential camp in provincial capital to review the political situation as well as refreshing contacts with party workers and leaders by the end of this month, Frontier Post has learnt.
The PPP sources on Thursday confided that President Zardari has directed PPP second command, especially in Punjab, to gear up for the electoral brawl as general elections are not far off and party leaders and workers should prepare for them.
They claimed that President issued instructions to PPP Central Punjab and South Punjab presidents Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and Makhdoom Shahabuddin for strengthening party at grass root level in the province.
The sources further claimed that President Zardari’s sister Faryal Talpur and former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani would also accompany him at the camp during meetings with party workers and leaders. In the absence of President Zardari, both Faryal Talpur and Yusuf Raza Gilani would look into the party affairs from Union Council to Division level in Punjab so that workers and local leadership would feel a sense of one-on-one liaison with party high command that was the long standing demand of PPP workers and local leadership.
They added that in a recent meeting held in Islamabad, both presidents of PPP Central Punjab and South Punjab have been directed to speed up their tours of the provinces so that maximum spade work should be completed before President’s arrival. It is notable here that both leaders have already started tours of far flung areas of Punjab to refresh contacts with local leadership and would submit a comprehensive report to President Zardari about their tours and party standing in these areas.
