Secretary General PPP, Punjab, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that the demand of the agitating Party regarding stepping down of the Prime Minister, conditional or otherwise, was not tenable as there was no constitutional provision to this effect.
He said this in a statement issued from here today adding that mere on the basis of allegations the stepping down of the Prime Minister would set a bad precedent with dangerous consequences for the political system, and the political stability in the country would become chimera as a consequence.
He argued that the demand of PTI and PAT for the resignation of the Prime Minister was clearly against the imperatives of the administration of justice because these parties were determined to juggernaut as a prosecutor, a jury and an executing entity at the same time.
He urged the government and the warring parties to show restraint and sanity and talk out the mechanism to investigate the allegations of rigging in the first place. The allegations are serious by any measure, he added.
The fate of the incumbent Prime Minister should be determined by the outcome of the impartial investigation of the allegations adding before that the insistence of punishment would be deemed as sheer victimization.
He recalled that the allegations of rigging were widespread and the PPP had also expressed its reservations but accepted the results for the sake of the continuity of the political process.
He underscored the importance of evolving the mechanism to ensure electoral process as free, fair and transparent without an iota of doubt adding that the Parliamentary Reforms Committee should undertake it as its top priority considering it as the national demand.
Tanvir Ashraf Kaira made it clear that the PPP and its leadership would not let democracy go down in the country come what may because democracy and the bright future of Pakistan, the federation and the nation were interlinked.
