Need to improve Pakistan’s soft image: Sumsam Bukhari

LAHORE: Pakistan is a country representing the vision of Quaid-e-Azam, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto so there is a need to portray the softer image of Pakistan to the world, and this new English FM channel will help in this regard, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Sumsam Ali Bukhari said.
Sumsam said this during the launching ceremony of the Radio Pakistan’s English channel Planet FM-94 at the PBC Broadcasting House on Saturday.
This is the second radio station of FM-94 series of Radio Pakistan; the first one is radiating Islamabad since 2009 to promote music, talent and provide a platform to youth to raise their voice. Later, a live musical concert was also held in which singers and artists, including Areib Azhar, Sain Zahoor, Pappu Sain Dholchi and Mekaal Hassan performed.
Sumsam presided over the ceremony while Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf and US Consul General in Lahore Nina Maria Fite were the chief guests.
Radio Pakistan Director General Murtaza Solangi and cricketer Aamir Sohail also graced the occasion along with other renowned personalities.
The minister categorically said that Asif Ali Zardari as president has constitutional immunity but some forces seemed to have some problem with him.
US Consul General Fite while addressing the ceremony congratulated the entire staff of Radio Pakistan on launching an English FM channel from the provincial capital, and expressed hope that the channel will play a great role for promoting English language as well as provide an ample opportunity to the youth of country to raise their voice.
