ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Saturday said he considers the Pakistan Army the custodian of the Constitution. Talking to media persons here, Khursheed Shah said the military is a patriotic institution and it is aware of the emotions and sentiments of the people. “The Pakistan Army also knows the people’s emotions and desires,” he added.
To a question, the opposition leader said whatever the PTI and PAT are doing is against the Constitution and against the spirit of democracy.
Khursheed Shah stressed that reconciliation between the government and the protesting parties should also be held through parliament. He said all the democratic forces including the PPP would never compromise on the supremacy of the Constitution and parliament. “We will save the Constitution at all costs,” he said.
The PPP leader said parliament reflects the aspirations of the people and all issues should be resolved through parliament.
Khursheed Shah said some people say there is no democracy here, while the others do not want this parliament. He said the ones staging sit-ins in Islamabad are not in favour of the Constitution and democracy.
The opposition leader said an elected parliament is present here and all the decisions should be made through it. “People know all the parties and their character,” he said. He asked the 200 million people of Pakistan to open their eyes and observe what role is being played by whom.
