LAHORE: With the announcement made by President Asif Ali Zardari for holding Local Body elections prior to general elections, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab has started finalising its candidates for the Union Council level, The Frontier Post has learnt here Tuesday.
The well placed sources within PPP told this scribe that pary’s central Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich chaired the provincial executive council meeting at party office in Lahore and specially focused on over viewing the of party preparation in terms of LB polls in the province.
They further told that the party office bearers and executive council members have been tasked to give provide recommendations for the prospective candidates in different constituencies of districts of the province, so that the names for the candidates of the party can be finalized in time.
Earlier, President Zardari has tasked the both presidents of South Punjab and Central Punjab to complete tours of the province far flung areas to refresh the liaison with party workers and local office bearers to strengthen PPP position for the upcoming general elections as well as LB polls if held.
Sources said PPP high command had asked party leaders to speedup the process of finalising candidates for the elections after recent development especially successful mediation with Mutahida qaumi Movement (MQM) in Sindh.
