Karachi, September 10, 2014: A high profile meeting of the film fraternity was held at Bilawal house today and was chaired by Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and attended by Syed Owais Muzafar, Chairman Censor Board Fakhr e Alam, Chief of Staff to Chairman PPP Hashaam Riaz Sheikh and MPA Hasnain Mirza. The film fraternity was represented by actors, producers, exhibitors including Humayun Saeed, Javed Sheikh, Nadeem Mandviwalli, Rashid Khawaja, Amyn Tahir, Bilal Asharf, Feeza Ali Mirza, Zeba Bakhtiar, Mazhar Zaidi and others.
A detailed presentation was made on behalf of the film fraternity by Azaan Sami Khan highlighting the concerns of the film industry and requirements of the film industry. The industry representatives appreciated and thanked the Chairman PPP for the decision by the last PPP federal government for allowing Bollywood films in Pakistan and giving industry confidence, the industry representatives said that it was the positive policy changes by PPP that resulted in the current boom in Pakistani film industry.
The Chairman Censor Board Fakhr e Alam presented the new draft of the New Motion Picture Act 2014 to Chairman PPP in the presence of the film fraternity. The New Motion Picture Act covers all concerned issues of the film industry and has a detail road map of the future to encompass new cineplexes, studios and other facilities to be built in public private partnerships. The New Motion Picture Act was developed after detailed discussions with all stake holders of the film fraternity.
The film fraternity recognized and appreciated the history of Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari with the film industry regarding the historical Bambino Cinema. The Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared his love for films, arts and culture and reaffirmed his belief in Pakistani talent. The Chairman took notice of the potential job creation through film production which currently averages at 400 skilled workers per film and took note of capital flight of business overseas due to lack of facilities. The Chairman PPP said that the party and its government will continue to support the film industry through all means possible including Sindh Festival and Sindh International Film Festival, building of new facilities and policy reform.
The Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instructed Chairman Censor Board Fakhr e Alam to ensure that all follow ups are done in a timely manner and all plans implemented.
The Chairman PPP assured the New Motion Picture Act 2014 as proposed by the film fraternity will be presented with full consensus and all necessary protection and promotion of the industry will be done. Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is pushing for reforms in all sectors for betterment and improvement. The Chairman PPP also emphasized on ensuring budget cinemas for rural areas and lower income audiences.
