Chairman Bilawal Bhutto handed over 30 trucks of relief goods, twenty more to follow, for the flood victims in Karachi today to Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP and Secretary General Tanvir Ashraf Kaira. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Faryal Talpur, Awais Muzaffar and Sharjeel Memon and Sherry Rehman were also present on the occasion.
Thirty truck load of relief goods have left for Lahore and the rest of the twenty trucks will follow soon that will make the total of fifty trucks.
Later, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo accompanied by Tanvir Ashraf Kaira called on Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Co- Chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House Karachi today and apprised them the devastations caused by the floods in Punjab.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo informed the Chairman and the Co- Chairman that the flood victims badly needed tents urgently as their houses had been totally destroyed. On this, Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari directed that tents worth rupees of five crores should be immediately purchased and handed over to PPP Punjab for distribution among the shelter-less people in the calamity hit areas.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, during the meeting according to Mr. Wattoo said that he would soon visit the districts which were worst hit by the floods to express his solidarity with the people.
While earlier talking to media after the handing over ceremony of relief goods trucks, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo greatly appreciated the Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Sindh Chief Minister and Madam Faryal Talpur for opening their hearts and wallets for the flood victims of Punjab. The relief goods will definitely mitigate the sufferings of the flood victims to a great deal.
He said that the sixteen districts of the Punjab had been worst hit by the flash floods destroying lacks of acres of standing crops of rice and cotton besides the washing away of the thousands of houses in the rural areas along with livestock.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo deeply acknowledged and commended the donation of Rs. one hundred million to the Punjab Government by Co- Chairman adding it clearly manifested how the PPP leadership and the Party workers were sharing the sufferings of the people in Punjab.
He later disclosed that a high level meeting of the PPP Punjab had been summoned by him tomorrow to evolve the mechanism for prompt and fair distribution of the relief goods in the flood hit areas as the victims were in dire need of such items of daily use.
He said that the top leadership had assured him that the PPP would continue the flow of goods and cash dedicated for the early rehabilitation of the people with honour and dignity.
