LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will soon visit the flood-hit areas of Punjab Province to express solidarity with flood victims and also to distribute relief goods among them.
PPP Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said this while chairing the party’s provincial executive council meeting here on Tuesday. Party’s divisional coordinators, districts and tehsil presidents and ticket-holders from Gujranwala, Lahore and Faislabad Divisions attended the meeting.
Wattoo apprised the council members and other participants of the meeting about his Monday’s meeting with PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi where he went to receive trucks loaded with relief goods from the PPP patron-in-chief.
He said that he had apprised the party leaders of devastation caused by floods in Gujranwala and Faisalabad Divisions and underscored the urgency of supplying tents to them on emergency basis. He said that the cochairman immediately issued instructions to purchase tents of Rs 50 million for the shelter-less people. Wattoo appreciated the generous donation made by the party high command and said that the arrival of 50 truckloads of relief goods would greatly help in alleviate miseries of the flood victims.
He added that party high command has also assured him in no uncertain terms that hundreds of truckloads of relief goods would follow after the distribution of initial consignment of 50 trucks. “We have to evolve a mechanism for efficient distribution of relief goods among the people at such a large scale,” he observed. Wattoo lauded donation of a mobile dispensary to the city of Chinot by Inamul Haq Dogar in order to provide medical facilities to the flood-hit. He said that the PPP Punjab chapter would also extend mobile medical facilities on a wider scale in the flood-hit districts for treatment and prevention purposes in order to stop the spread of post-floods diseases. Wattoo said that 30 trucks carrying relief goods that had left Karachi for Lahore on Monday would reach here today (Wednesday).
Chaudhry Ejaz Samman, coordinator of Gujranwala Division, said in the meeting that the all of districts in the division had been badly hit by the recent floods. Raja Riaz apprised the meeting that Jhang District was the worst-hit, suggesting that relief goods be immediately dispatched there as the Punjab government had failed to help out residents of that district. The participants of the meeting highly appreciated the immediate and substantial response of the party leadership to help out flood victims of Punjab Province in difficult times. They also thanked the PPP Punjab president for making an excellent presentation of flood situation in the province to the high command of the party.
Party leaders, including Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor, Nawab Sher Vaseer, Shaukat Basra, Khurram Wattoo, Tariq Gujjar, Azhar Hazzan Dar, Manzoor Maneka and Raja Amir, attended the meeting.
