NEW YORK, Sep. 30 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador for Polio Eradication Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has urged the international community to extend help and cooperation to eradicate polio and make it polio free country.She was addressing at Global Citizen Festival oragized here at famous Central Park to highlight awareness campaign to fight polio.Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who was here to address a high level conference at United Nations said, “I am joining you all here on behalf of my country and my family to continue this crucial mission to eradicate polio from Pakistan.”She said her mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, personally vaccinated her in 1994, an action that inspired the entire nation to embrace polio immunization.Assefa said her mother dreamed of a new millennium where children were no longer ravaged from this crippling disease.
She said Pakistan is one of the 3 countries that still battles polio.Aseefa said in this final stages of the fight against this deadly virus,”we seek as much international support as you can give”.
She told the gathering that the number of polio cases had gone down but the fight against polio is not over yet.
She said as Pakistan’s Ambassador for Polio Eradication, “I am personally taking the lead to ensure that every Pakistani child, in our cities, towns and villages is protected from this disease.”
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari said she has been working to eradicate polio in the name of her mother, on behalf of all the mothers of Pakistan and on behalf of all mothers around the world.
She said, “I want to make clear, that whatever the odds, we will not be deterred in this campaign”.
“We appreciate and thank the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO, UNICEF, the Japanese Government and, Rotary International for their support,” she said.
