LAHORE: Former president and Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari Sunday said the Parliament and constitution can provide solution to the present crises and underlined the need for unity among political forces to tackle the challenges being faced by the country.
He expressed these views while talking to Pakistan Muslim League-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervez Elahi who called on him here at Bilawal House.
Mr. Zardari said all the party heads are respectable for him and that Pakistan’s interest should be on top in the priority list of the entire political forces of the country.
“It is an international conspiracy to destabilise Pakistan by creating turmoil through sit-ins. It is time to support Parliament and the prime minister to strengthen democracy”, Zardari told the Chaudhrys, advising them to withdraw their support to Dr Qadri, who, he believed was pursuing someone else’s agenda.
According to the Nation’s report Chaudhrys tried hard to convince the PPP leader that “we should get rid of Sharifs” who had no regard for rule of law. But Zardari told the Chaudhry cousins, “If a tradition is set to oust an elected prime minister through sit-ins, it would create problems for the future prime ministers especially from the smaller provinces”. The PPP leader also feared that any wrong decision by political leadership at this critical moment may encourage the third force to fish in the troubled waters.
Mr. Zardari, however, said his party would have no objections if legal and constitutional options are tried to remove the prime minister. He also said that PPP won’t mind holding of early elections if they become inevitable as a result of some constitutional move.
