Pakistan Peoples Party central Punjab Information Secretary Raja Amir Khan has congratulated the newly appointed president and secretary general of the PPP central Punjab, he has also hailed the Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s decision to appoint Mian Manzoor Wattoo as President and Tanvir Ashraf Kaira as secretary general of the central Punjab.
He says, under their leadership party will win the next election by big margin, as both are very seasoned and experienced politicians and know politics of Punjab very well.
The PPP would emerge victorious in Punjab in the upcoming general elections. He added.
Federal minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has been made the new president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab, the decision has been made to mobilize the PPP and consolidate its position in the province. The PPP central and provincial leaders hailed the decision, saying it would prove better for the party.
While felicitating Wattoo over his elevation, they also applauded what they called political wisdom of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for assigning an important political role to Wattoo in Punjab.
In their separate statements, the PPP leaders including Navid Chaudhry, Shabina Riaz Sheikh, Fawad Chaudhary, Raja Amir khan and Haider Zaman Qureshi welcomed the decision. They said that Wattoo was an astute politician having the guts to inflict defeat on party opponents in the upcoming general elections.
Shabina Riaz in her statement said that President Zardari had brought forward a politician who possessed political sagacity to lead the party in Punjab. She hoped that Wattoo would take along all the estranged party workers with him.
According to a report in Dawn, Mian Manzoor Wattoo’s supporters in the PPP say that he was the best possible choice available in the party ranks in Punjab to lead it. “Wattoo will not only woo the support of influential political families of Punjab but also pose a formidable challenge to the PML-N in the coming elections,” a PPP leader who is considered close to Wattoo said. He said like the late Salman Taseer, Wattoo had a political stature and the Sharifs were uncomfortable with him.
“In coming days you will see PPP gaining politically in Punjab. Besides, Zardari wants a man like him to negotiate with the PML-Q leadership on the seat adjustment issues as the Chaudhrys are apparently dominating the PPP in Punjab to secure better deals,” he said.
Ahmed Riaz Shiekh, a friend of Zardari, said Mr Wattoo was a very good choice of the party. “The party expects him to take the workers and allies along.” Besides, he said, the two former chief ministers – Wattoo and Pervaiz Elahi – would make a very good combination for the next elections.
According to a report in Daily Times, Wattoo enjoys President Zardari’s trust more than anyone else in Punjab. The President is learnt to have given Wattoo a free hand to gather the support of political families in central and southern Punjab, besides wooing independent electables, and pacifying disgruntled elements within the party. Wattoo, the sources said, “is an expert in the politics of alliances”.
They said further the PPP top hierarchy believed that Wattoo was the only person who could counter Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), better than anyone else. He had accomplished a similar feat in the 90s, they reminded. Wattoo secured the office of the chief minister in 1993 after a vote of no-confidence against PML-N’s chief minister Ghulam Haider Wyne.
