LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has strongly condemned firing on the PTI workers in Gujranwala today adding that the politics of violence will doom all of us indiscrimately.
Wattoo in a statement issued here on Sunday called upon the Punjab Government to apprehend the culprits at the earliest because it was its primary responsibility to maintain law and order in the province and those who took law into their hands must face consequences. He demanded that the perpetrators must be brought to the book because they were apparently willfully involved in such activities on purpose to hurt democracy in the country.
They must be exposed sooner than later before the damage is done to the political system, he added.
PPP Punjab President said that the imperatives of the continuity of political system demanded the politics based on consensus, reconciliation and respect for the other viewpoint.
Those who intend to bulldoze their agenda through intimidation and manipulation are targeting democracy to replace it with their brand of dictatorship, he forewarned. He urged the PTI Chief and its leaders to desist from using unparliamentarily language against the PPP top leadership otherwise the PPP workers would be constrained to pay the compliments in the same way. They must not be pushed against wall, he added.
Democratic politics is politics of decency and tolerance and doing the politics of abuse and allegations and taking it too far would boomerange beyond redemption for those who indulge in such politics. Wattoo expressed the resolve of his Party and its leadership that it would not let the sun go down on democracy in the country as a tribute to the legacy of the leaders and workers who nurtured it with their blood under the most torturous conditions of ferocious dictatorship of General Zia-ul- Haq. He said that the PPP would continue its arduous struggle to forestall the designs of the anti- people against democracy and the country.
