Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has urged the Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah to take up the setting up of the Provincial Finance Award Commission in Punjab urgently at the floor of the Parliament to stop the monkey business in the disbursement of development funds of the province among the districts by the Chief Minister of Punjab. He said this in a sppeech at a dinner that he hosted in honor of Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah last night at Gym khana Club here yesterday.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that the discriminatory distribution of development funds by the Chief Minister Punjab had left the least developed districts and regions of the Punjab high and dry causing acute economic deprivation among the people living there.
He said that the Punjab government had been engaged in the distribution of the resources of the province of Punjab as their personal property hence could not be justified by any measure of economic and social justice.
He pointed out that the development of big cities at the cost of the far flung districts and the backward regions of the province were fueling hatred against the major urban centers which would not bode well in the process of growth of an homogeneous population in the rovince.
He underscored the importance of taking the issue of Provincial Finance Commission Award with full seriousness because of its definite positive impact on the federation and the country. Its absence will create not only tension between the urban and rural population of the province but also it could trigger mass migration to major cities with inherent difficulties attached to such scenario causing unbearable burden on cities’ infrastructure.
He pointed out that due to the unfair distribution of the financial resources, roads had disappeared especially of the farm to market, sanitation system was good for nothing, education and health institutions were in deplorable conditions and lack of clean drinking water had caused hepatitis to an epidemic proportion.
