Enough is enough and it is the time that both PML (N) and PTI should get serious and let the country out of the stand-off by hammering out an agreement during this round of negotiations starting from Sunday, December 14, said Tanvir Ashraf Kaira in a statement issued from here today.
He urged the PTI leadership to suspend the politics of agitation in the interest of the negotiations because talk and fight were dangerous for the negotiations to be result- oriented negotiations.
He said that the nation was on tenterhooks for the last many months and the country was paralysed with the withering away of the writ of the government adding the losses to the economy ran into billions of dollars to the dismay of the people who were bracing the fall out of their belligerence.
He called upon the riling Party to accept the demands of the PTI for the investigations of the allegations of electoral rigging in 2013 by the Supreme Court Judicial Commission because it was now the national demand. The PPP accepted the results of elections under protest for the sake of the continuity of the political system in the country, he maintained.
Tanvir Ashraf Kaira said that the holding of free and imaprtial elections were critical for the promotion and strengthening of democracy and fulfilling the objectives of the constitution. The manipulation of election results or stealing the mandate of the people is equally heinous crime and should be trialed under Article 6 of the constitution.
He also demanded that the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan should step down voluntarily due to their controversial role in the elections. Their presence in the ECP may be detrimental to the electoral reforms now under way by the Parliamentary Committee for the Electoral Reforms.
He added that the PPP had been victim of election riggings in the past and the Asghar Khan’s case was the case in point and others would be proved by the history.
