LAHORE: PPP Central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo on Saturday said the whole nation is united to eliminate terrorists from the country and it is mandatory for the government to take immediate steps to purge the country of terrorism and extremism.
Addressing the major PPP Punjab event on the seventh death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Wattoo extended his gratitude to the rest of the political leadership for vindicating the stand taken by the PPP right from the beginning. He said extremism and terrorism should be defeated on their turf because other options would prove an exercise in futility.
The event was also addressed by PPP leaders Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Haji Aziz ur Rehman Chan and Jahan Ara Wattoo.
Wattoo said the terrorist mindset was determined to impose its toxic ideology at the gunpoint. Any degree of procrastination on the part of government will be deemed as unpardonable, he maintained.
He said the Peshawar tragedy was the heinous crime of the same mindset that assassinated Benazir. He said some leaders had been doing politics while sitting in foreign countries but Benazir did the politics of the poor people while living in Pakistan among the people of the country.
After the speeches, candles were lit as an expression of respect for Benazir and the victims of Peshawar tragedy. After Quran Khawani dua was offered for the eternal peace of the martyrs.
Similar functions are being held in the Punjab at district level to pay tributes to Benazir Bhutto and pray for eternal peace for the victims of the Peshawar tragedy.
