The apprehensions of human right activists, section of legal fraternity and media should be allayed after the assertion of former President Asef Ali Zardari yesterday saying that Speedy Trials Courts would only adjudicate cases of terrorism and no case of political worker or common man having political victimization overtone will be referred by the government, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo in a statement issued from here today.
He said that his statement clearly implied that the support of the PPP was conditional adding that the Speedy Trial Courts would function within the given mandate for the period of two years.
He said it was a difficult decision but the PPP had to go along with other political leadership that favoured the extraordinary measures to cope with the appalling situation created by the menace of extremism and terrorism.
He argued that the whole political leadership was on the same page in setting up of the Courts and therefore its misuse was simply not possible. The Parliamentary scrutiny will be an effective check at the same time, he argued.
Mian Manzoor Wattoo saluted the workers and office bearers of the PPP workers for observing the martyrdom day of Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto yesterday in Lahore and at all the district headquarters in which rich tributes were paid to their beloved leader. The occasion was synonymous with rare manifestation of the highest esteem the workers held their beloved leader who sacrificed her life for the cause of democracy and rights of the poor people.
He said that the occasion was marked with the expression of solidarity with the families of the Peshawar victims and also prayed for the eternal peace for the departed souls.
