Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Secretary General PPP Punjab, has castigated the government for contemplating to impose surcharge on some of the petroleum products as a measure to generate revenue. It is a trivial move to squeeze the poor dry because they will bear the burden being the end consumers.
He said this in a statement issued from here today. He said that the anti-poor policies of this government to benefit the capitalists were inhuman action and the PPP would resist such move by the government.
He pointed that while the prices of petrol in the international marked had fallen below the sixty dollars per barrel and the contemplation of the government to burden the common man with extra levy was unforgiving.
He said that the prices of the goods of common man use had not come down despite the more than half prices of petroleum products as compared to the last year. On the contrary, the prices of vegetables have increased exploding in the face of good governance claim of the government.
Tanvir Ashraf Kaira said that the government was not willing to tax the industrialists and instead showering incentives on industrialists in violation of the narrative of free market and healthy competition.
He pointed out that the government had benefited the capitalist by exempting custom duties to the extent of Rs. 300 billions by issuing SROs and its surcharge on the poor was the manifestation of its pro-capitalist policies at the expense of have-nots.
He said that such measures of burdening the poor was like extracting easy money, meant to easy go to placate the privileged ones.
